Mr Doug McWhinnie is a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon based in Milton Keynes. Clinical interests include venous and arterial disease in addition to ambulatory surgery and minimally invasive surgery.

He graduated with Commendation from Glasgow University Medical School in 1977 and while Clinical Lecturer in Oxford was awarded MD for his research Thesis in Renal Transplant Rejection. He appointed the first Laparoscopic Nurse Practitioner in the UK in 1994 and opened the first dedicated 23 hour unit in 1998.  He was appointed to the Council of the British Association of Day Surgery in 1998 and was President from 2008 to 2010.

He has written on many aspects of Day and Short Stay Surgery and runs successful hands-on courses for laparoscopic cholecystectomy and local anaesthetic inguinal hernia repair.
