Harmeet Khaira
Mr Harmeet Khaira is a consultant general surgeon with a specialist interest in vascular surgery. He studied pre-clinical medicine at Cambridge University (Emmanuel College) form 1982 to 1985 and clinical medicine at Oxford University (Magdalen College) from 1985 to 1988.
He moved back to Birmingham in 1988 and all of his subsequent training has been based in the West Midlands. He taught Anatomy at the University of Birmingham for a year. He then passed his FRCS examinations and entered research for 18 months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The subject of my MD thesis was 'Ischaemia-reperfusion injury in intermittent claudication'. In 1998 he passed the final FRCS examination and was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Good Hope Hospital in October 1999.
He lives in Sutton Coldfield and is married to a local GP. They have 3 children who occupy most of his spare time.
